How to join CSRS

Historical conditions governing researchers’ contributions to administrative costs and workstation rental at CSRS.

Rules on researchers' participation in administrative costs and workstation rental

The historical document below sets out the bench fees associated with administrative costs and the use of a workstation.

Principle

Every researcher working within CSRS is required to contribute to the administrative costs they incur and pay rent for the workstation they occupy. A reduced rate applies when a project involves several researchers. Large projects and programmes with annual funding exceeding CHF 100 000 and providing overhead payments are not subject to these regulations. A specific rate applies to students holding a CSRS Foundation scholarship.

These regulations set out the bench fees payable by research projects using CSRS infrastructure and by students holding a CSRS Foundation scholarship.

  • Research projects using CSRS infrastructure.
  • Students holding a CSRS Foundation scholarship.

Rates — research projects using CSRS infrastructure

The regulations distinguish between administrative costs, which apply to all researchers, and workstation fees, which apply to researchers occupying a workstation at CSRS or Bringakro and are charged in addition to administrative costs.

a) Administrative costs

This rate applies to all researchers.

Annual administrative costs
DesignationPeriodCurrencyAmount
First researcher *Per yearCHF6 000
Additional researcherPer yearCHF1 200

b) Workstation

This rate applies to researchers occupying a workstation at CSRS or Bringakro and is charged in addition to administrative costs.

First researcher *Per yearCHF6 000
Additional researcherPer yearCHF1 200

Calculation and payment

* By definition, the first researcher in a project is the one whose stay is the longest.

These amounts will be calculated in proportion to the time actually spent at the Centre, rounded to the month. The invoice is payable within 30 days.

Students holding a CSRS Foundation scholarship

Students holding a CSRS Foundation scholarship pay a flat fee of CHF 250 per month, covering administrative costs and a workstation. The Foundation will deduct this amount at source.

Application

These regulations apply to all expatriate researchers and students working within CSRS.

Entry into force

These regulations come into force on 1 March 2010 and replace the version of 1 July 2008.
