To mark International Women’s Day, the CSRS Gender Unit organized a conference on Thursday, March 12, 2026, in the Norbert Béhi Room, on the theme “Challenges Facing Women’s Access to Inheritance in Urban and Rural Areas in Côte d’Ivoire.” The event was attended by the Director General, Prof. Inza Koné; the Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Khady Sall; representatives from the CNRA, Ms. Dadié Sidonie, and the HMA; as well as researchers and staff from the CSRS.

Invited for the occasion, the speaker, Dr. Zamblé Georgette, a psychologist, Ph.D. in Gender and Development, and Officer of the Ivorian Order of Merit, explained the persistence of multifaceted obstacles that hinder women’s access to inheritance in Côte d’Ivoire.

According to the speaker, our country has a progressive and egalitarian legal framework that has been internationally recognized. However, the effectiveness of these rights remains limited due to several factors: limited knowledge of the laws, the social weight of patriarchal norms, customary control over land, and local institutions that are predominantly male—but not exclusively so.

Dr. Zamblé continued: “Inheritance is a key lever for women’s power, autonomy, and economic justice. Equitable inheritance is a matter of dignity, social stability, and development, and requires a collective commitment to ensure that every woman can inherit without discrimination.”

This conference was very enriching and productive. Through fruitful discussions and the sharing of experiences, participants gained a deeper understanding of the importance of equal rights and the empowerment of women.

The ceremony, enhanced by the presence of men, concluded with the presentation of the CSRS Gender Unit’s Gender Policy document to the General Directorate.
