Inaugural ribbon-cutting by Swiss Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume
On June 30, 2025, the first wing of Côte d'Ivoire's first archaeological museum was inaugurated in Singrobo-Ahouaty (Agneby-Tiassa region). The event is part of the Ivorian-Swiss cooperation to promote the country's archaeological heritage.
The ceremony featured three highlights:
- Screening of a short film tracing the history of archaeological research in Côte d'Ivoire, with a focus on collaboration between Swiss (Éric Yusecom, Anne Mayor, Denis Ramseyer, Vincent Sernels) and Ivorian archaeologists.
- Official speeches by :
- The Director of IHE Ivoire Hydro Electrique (project owner);
- The representative of the Minister of Higher Education;
- Mrs. Elisabeth Baume, Swiss Federal Councillor, christened “Nana Boty Ahou” by the local chiefdom;
- Mrs. Minister of Culture of Côte d'Ivoire.
Mrs. Baume expressed her satisfaction and presented the museum with a traditional Swiss L'Estontague mask.
3. Visit to the temporary exhibition organized for the occasion, presenting major archaeological discoveries from recent missions.
This inauguration marks an important step in the promotion of Ivorian heritage. The museum aims to be a tool for cultural, scientific and educational development, serving young people and local communities.
